ON WAVINESS / SUPER-FLUOUS
MA Final project book
A book that uses the two sides of the concertina to explore the relationship between a punctuation mark's shape and its meaning.
'Super-fluous' is a collection of short essays, each dedicated to a certain use or meaning of the tilde (~). They are laid out in a timeline of usage, demonstrating the shifting meaning of punctuation over time. Multiple uses eventually crowd on to the page, reflecting the creative flowering in use of a mark with no widely-agreed fixed meaning. Each essay meditates on an aspect of contemporary communication behavious, leading to disruptive questions that interrupt the flow.
